This Calvin Klein Jeans ad, displayed on a billboard in New York, is over-the-top sexually. Billboards are great at getting attention, when you're at a red light what else do you have to look at? However, I think that this ad is too racy, even for a Calvin Klein ad that are known for being risque.
If children saw this ad, I'm sure they would ask their parents about it, and it may make for an awkward conversation. If this ad was featured in a magazine, it would have been more appropriate, but having it displayed over a busy street is probably not the best idea.

#44

This commercial provokes such a strong emotion in almost everyone who sees it. They are showing you how upset a little child is when they loose you for only a second, and want you to imagine how they would react loosing their parent for good.
This ad was so popular that Good Morning America did a segment on the Anti-Smoking campaign. It was very creative and executed wonderfully. I think that the ad will stick with everyone who watches it.

The Finale of the Harry Potter series is quickly approaching. The final trailer, long awaited, has sparked much excitement in the Harry Potter fan base. The producers of the trailers have always done a wonderful job in promoting the films, but this final trailer is the best yet. They understood that the pressure and excitement is higher than ever. For my generation, the Harry Potter films have been around since we were in grade school; the finale is huge. I was happy to see that this trailer is better than all of the rest.

#42

This local commercial is horrible. The man in the commercial, their owner, is in no way trained to act in commercials. There have been so many complaints about this commercial that he actually addressed them in one spot. However, instead of trying to fix the commercials he basically tells people to quit whining and like his commercials. That is a sure fire way to lose support for your product or company.

#41

Proactive is known for their celebrity endorsements. They have had numerous celebrities over the years, but having Justin Beiber endorse their products almost guarantees sales increases. Young teenagers are the most common age group to get acne, and the biggest group of Justin Beiber fans. Young girls and boys will flock to Proactive.

#40

I thought this Sketchers spot was very well done. Joe Montana, the spokesperson for this ad and famous pro football player, talks about the product and how well it works for him in relation to his former career. Having someone so recognizable give great reviews on your product does the company wonders, but having Joe Montana opens up the product to a whole new audience.

The FreeCreditReport.com jingle commercials are becoming increasingly popular. When they first appeared, the ads had everyone singing their tune. It was creative, sounded good, and actually told you everything you needed to know about the product in a unique way.
Because they were so popular, the company even created a sort of talent show online to find the new FreeCreditReport.com band. This is the first time I have seen a commercial turn into a mini series.

#38

Although this Education Connection spot does tell all about their product in a creative way, I am sort of annoyed by it. I think the jingle (if they really needed one at all) could have been better. I also think that the girl they picked out to represent their company did a poor job. If you are making a jingle commercial, at least get someone who does not sound "nasaly" when they sing.

#37

The Bissell commercial is hilarious. They take a common situation, a dirty floor, and turn it into funny advertisement. Most everyone knows what it is like to have a mother of some sorts announce a surprise visit. Having a dirty house is shameful, so you need the Bissell ProHeat 2X to clean your floors to a standard that Mom would approve of. Overall, I think that this spot was well done. The features and product were clearly stated and the ad was memorable.

#36

This commercial for 1-800 Contacts is extremely annoying. They say that it is an overdramatic dramatisation, however, the "disclaimer" they give is just not good enough. Every time this commercial pops up on my TV I immediately change the channel. Even if I am watching a show that I like, I will switch over so I do not have to watch this spot!

#35

This Hollister ad is selling sex. The image of the woman posed seductively with two men, looking desirable, is visually stimulating, but that is all. Hollister, a clothing company, shows no clothes in the picture. The faces of the models are shown, but the men have no shirts on and you cannot make out the woman's clothes. If this were an ad for a nudist colony I would understand the picture, but nothing here shows me what Hollister is all about, except being beautiful.

#34

This ad was a PSA for fatherhood. Many families today are struggling. Divorce, poverty, and life challenges have made fatherhood even more important. Children need good positive role models in their lives. Fathers are so important in a child's life. Doing somthing as simple as practicing a cheer routine with your daughter makes a difference. The spot was wonderfully executed and humorous.

#33

The Wolfpack is Back! The trailer for The Hangover Part II is finally here. Already there is a lot of hype for the second installment of the Hangover, but reitterating all of the great critic comments in the opening of the trailer makes for even more anticiapation. The movie will automatically get fans because of the first movie, but this trailer makes me want to see it even more.

#32

This Tyson chicken nugget commercial was hilarious. "I Hate Everything" is relatable to every mom. At meal time, it seems like children hate everything that comes anywhere close to their plate. Tyson chicken nuggets has a solution though... their chicken nuggets. Healthy, quick, and a fan favorite, Tyson chicken nuggets make meals easy.

I though this Walmart commerical was hilarious. It appealed to many different types of people because of the humor and the relatability. The only thing that I think may be percieved as bad about the spot is the scream, if people are not paying attention it may scare them (this was intended to catch people's attention, however, not scare them). I liked the commerical though, well done.

This ad is great. Another one of the Dove Beauty Campaign ads, Beauty Pressure delivers another hard hitting message about the beauty industry. We are constantly assulted by images and messages promoting weight loss, bigger breasts, less signs of aging, ect. Dove tells mothers to talk to their daughters about beauty before they can be corrupted by the beauty industry.

#29

I really enjoyed this eTrade commercial. The series featuring talking babies has always been popular and has helped create a name for the company, but this commercial is by far my favorite. The humor is right on target for their desired audience. Although I do not know anything about stocks and finance, I will always rememeber the name eTrade because of their commercials.

#28

This CoverGirl and Walmart ad is very smart. Using Taylor Swift as their model was key in making this product sell off the shelves. Taylor Swift is so incredibly popular right now, women of all ages will go running out to buy these products. Taylor could be selling toliet paper and women would buy it. Overall, very smart of CoverGirl to select Taylor as their model.

#27

This ad by Makeup Forever is the first untouched makeup ad ever! I loved how in addition to showing how well their product photographs and looks on unretouched skin, the ad makes me feel like the company knows that photoshopping sets unrealistic images for women of all ages.
One thing I did notice though is that on their bit of print announcing that the photo is unretouched, there is an astric after the statement, so I wonder what they did photoshop...

#26

This Doritos commercial aired first during the Superbowl. I thought it was hilarious! It was creative, unique, funny... everything that a good Superbowl commercial should be. Doritos is known for their over-the-top funy commercials, and this one did not fail to impress!

#25

This Abercrombie & Fitch ad relies solely on sex appeal to concince viewers to buy their product. The name of the company is displayed in small print in the corner of the ad, making it very unclear. Also, the only product shown is a pair of pants, the same pair on each model it appears. This ad is degrading to the male models, something seen to done to many female models, because it only shows their body. They have no face, no brain, and no voice.

#24

I really enjoyed this Dove ad. Their Real Beauty series was extremely popular with many viewers. I think the idea behind the ad, showing how a model gets cover worthy, was wonderful. So many people look at magazine and pictures of models and want to look like them. Dove uncovers the truth behind these overly photoshopped pictures and shows women that even the model chosen for the picture was not good enough for their cover.

#23

This ad for Revlon Face Illuminator was featured in magazines. The model is an actress named Jessica Biel. Honestly, I do not like the picture and styling. It looks like they are trying to be "retro" with the headwrap and her eyes are squinty and poorly lined with eyeliner. Because of this ad, I would not buy the product they are selling.

#22

This Ralph Lauren jeans ad caused major controversy when it first appeared. The model in the picture is extremely photoshopped. The woman's head is larger than the width of her waist, an impossible porportion! This ad is horrible because it says that an already incredibly thin model is not thin enough. Showing this image sets a literally impossible standard for women. In order to appear on a Ralph Lauren ad, you must be literally be dead to be thin enough.

#21

This ad addresses the controversial decision made by a famous basketball player to leave Cleveland and move to Miami. Many people were upset by his decision, and even more upset by this ad. Overall it was effective in making people remember it, but because James is so disliked by his former fans, nothing he does will ever be looked at the same way...

#20

The series of Old Spice commericals featuring the Old Spice Guy have become mega-hits! Millions of YouTube hits and numerous awards have shown that the commerical is definitely effective at reaching its target audience. The humor and originiality make it a unique ad campaign that will be remembered for a long time.

#19

This condom ad is hilarious. I saw this in a Human Sexuality class and along with all 200 of my classmates, could not stop laughing! The ad really hits home why you need condoms in a creative, funny way. The ad is highly effective and memorable.

#18

"There's a Soldier in all of Us," a commerical promoting the new Call of Duty: Black Ops game is really a great ad. The spot has celebrities, men, women, teens, African Americans, Caucasions, Asians... it actually demonstrates their point that everyone can play this game. I thought it was very creative and entertaining. The target audience is definitely video game players, but I think non-gamers would notice and remember the commercial.

#17

This Superbowl commercial is everything a Superbowl commercial should be. It prominently displays the product, is memorable, funny, and short enough not to lose viewers to bathroom breaks between the games. I thought it hit its target audience effectively, men and women both can laugh at this, and everyone from the age 13 and up would find it amusing. Good job, Pepsi!

#16

When the eHarmony commercials first came out, people were excited. Because dating sites are so incredibly popular, eHarmony already had good popularity. After putting "real-life" couples that met on the website, their publicity skyrocketed. However, when scandal broke that the couples were fake, and not even listed on the eHarmony website people were outraged. However, the company still runs these ads...

#15

Not only does this ad poorly produced, but it is absolutely ridiculous that Ronnie, from the MTV series, Jersey Shore is their spokesperson. Not only has Ronnie never been overweight, but the mere fact that he is a man reduces the audience relateability. Women are typically the people buying weight loss supliments like these, having a muscular, physically fit man advertise the product is simply dumb advertising.

#14

This subway commercial may be my favorite commercial of all time. We have all seen the talking baby commercials, but I thought it was very innovative to put a little kid voice on an adult body. The "plot" of the spot was great, very funny and entertaining, and the message was clear: Subway sandwhiches are so good, you could end a relationship if someone tried to take yours.

#13

I absolutely love this commercial! Nike's "If You Let Me Play" commerical is one of the most famous commercials of all time. Almost everyone can relate in some way to this commercial.
Having young girls tell you all of the positive ways sports can help them later in life is extremely effective and memorable. I think this commercial will be around for generations.

Although I am a big fan of Urban Decay cosmetics, this ad does not do the company justice. The model actually looks like she is in pain, and the makeup she has on his horrible. They may have been going for an abstract look, but I would not be convinced to buy their products based on this ad.

#11

After being sued for the quality of their meat, Taco Bell countered with this ad. I think this was really smart.Taco Bell turned a negative into a positive with this ad, and gained a large following. People really wanted to know what would happen, and the people suing Taco Bell actually gave them more positive publicity.

#10

I did not like this ad. Fast food ad have typically been known to push the line when it comes to their ads, but I think this one is just over the line. The obvious sexual inuendo with the white sauce on her lips is disgusting and demeaning. I am honestly so disgusted by this ad, that I won't be eating at Taco Bell again.

#9

This ad, by nail polish company, OPI was ineffective for me. The ad did not show a product at all. Obviously, the model has on nail polish and is a stereotype of a Texas woman, the viewer does not see anything else but her. If you did not know what OPI made nail polish, you may not know what they were selling. They could be selling hats for all you knew...

#8

This ad, a series of nyquil print ads and commercials, is hilarious. I loved the use of celebrity, and thought it was very innovated to have a celebrity looking like we never see them. Celebrities are usually portrayed as amazing, almost inhuman people, so I liked the idea of seeing them at a low point.
This ad was also effective because of its timing. Having an olympic athlete portrayed during the time of the olympics was very smart.

#7

This ad is very sexy, and as they say, sex sells. I liked the portrayal of the product and the models instead of focusing on just one aspect of the ad. This ad is targeted to women, and I think that it reached its audience. Featured in women's magazines, this ad would get the message across to its viewers. What women would not want a man, who looks like that, to snuggle up to thier neck?

#6

I think this ad really sells it's product well. Women needing mascara are looking for something that will give them a glamorous look. The image, colors, design, and model do just this.
I liked the incoropration of the lashes in the ad. All too ofter, makeup ads show a picture of a pretty woman that would look good in anything. This ad just shows the lashes all by themselves, which is a definite plus.

#5

I thought this ad was fun! It was visually appealling, and easy to distinguish as a Dr. Pepper ad. The concept was wonderful too, instead of a boring, diet drink, Dr. Pepper Diet is like a sweet treat. After looking at the ad, I actually want to drink a Dr. Pepper! Mission- successfull!

#4

Bud Light, known for thier hilarious commercials, falls short on this ad. Although this is a print ad, they could have made it more unique. As far as I know, this could be an ad for any beer. Overall, this is not a particularly bad ad. The short, sweet message is good, the product is shown, there is some "movement" on the page, but it is not a Bud Light ad at all.

#3

I do not believe this is an effective ad. Although the girl in the picture is beautiful and the text in minimal but shocking, I do not think it is the best ad that BMW could have come up with. Although I understand the connection between a used car and a non-virgin woman, it is demeaning to women to compare them to a used car.
Alghough men may like the ad, women would be turned off by this. Women buy cars also, however this ad would not make them want to buy a BMW used car at all.

#2

This ad is definitely targeted towards men of any age. Although it may appeal to men, the ad is certainly offensive to women. The girl in the picture is half-naked, posed in a sexual position, however, you don't see her face at all! What message is this sending to men? That women's faces do not matter?
As a women, I am less than impressed with Axe. If the picture had shown her face, it would not have been as bad. Personally, I do not care if she is looking sexy in a bikini, but cutting off her face, her head, and essentially her brain, is unacceptable.

#1

I really loved this ad! The Men vs. Women "debate" has been going on for decades. Songs, games, and ads have all used this age old war, although, Nike utilizes it in a unique way. This print ad reminds the audience of the commerical they produced earlier.
In addition to being intellectually stimulating, the ad is visually pleasing. The model is athletic, something that women of the target audience aspire to. The words and visual really make for a great ad that would engage the target auience amazingly well.
